"What every boy needs to know about being a man" Is a speech from the movie Second Hand Lions. One of the main characters was named Hub McCann and was played by Robert Duvall. Hub lived in a old weathered house with his brother Garth McCann (played by Michael Caine) as lifelong bachelors. The brothers take in their grand nephew and through some hijinks which includes a lion in a cornfield and sword fighting with a plunger, help their relatively impressionable young man find a sense of self confidence. In the movie Hub gives a speech to a group of rough teenagers that he has given to countless other young men before. I thought that it was really great and wanted to post it to pay homage to these 2 great characters. Here it is:
"Sometimes the things that may or may not be true are the things that a man needs to believe in the most.. That people are basically good; that honor, courage, and virtue mean everything; that power and money.. money and power mean nothing. That good always triumphs over evil, and I want you to remember this. That love, true love, never dies... No matter if they're true or not, a man should believe in those things because those are the things worth believing in."
